WAS KATHY CHANGE RIGHT?
"War against Iraq is imminent ... the horrible machinations being seriously plotted out by the Pentagon surpass even Hollywood's wildest imaginings." -- Kathy Change, 1996
Nearly ten years have passed since activist artist and prophetess Kathy Change
left our earthly sphere in a tragic blaze of pain and hope.
Since then, here in the material world we have endured an unending succession of horrors which have left many of us choking in uncertainty, disbelief and terror at seeing our global humanity defiled and our human rights shredded one by one.
When Kathy made her fiery sacrifice in front of the Peace sculpture at Penn back in 1996, many people thought she was simply crazy; others saw her death as senseless, egotistical or exhibitionistic. (Kathy, gleaming mischievously, would probably agree with all of them.)
But when we look back at what Kathy was saying from today's perspective, it becomes strikingly clear that she was seeing the future, and trying to warn us that we were already hurtling foolishly toward an Armageddon that we the people, as conscious moral beings, have both the ability and the duty to forestall.
October 22, 2006, will mark the tenth year since Kathy left us. During the coming weeks we hope to help people understand more clearly what Kathy was trying to communicate, and why she felt that her message was worth dying for.
Look for further communiques wherever you found this one. Check out the fledgling website KathyChange.com (be patient, it'll grow).
And come to the Peace sculpture on Sunday, October 22, at 11:30 a.m., and to the Rotunda (south side of Walnut above 40th) at 2 p.m.
